Junior Council Snowball

brief //

The Junior Council of Chicago reached out to me to create a custom illustration for their 31st annual black-tie gala, Snowball. They asked for the illustration to feature both the Field Museum, where the event takes place every year, and Sue, the world-famous T-Rex who has made Chicago their home for the past 20 years. The event was sponsored by Pepsi, Tito’s Vodka, and ABC among others.

I created a highly-detailed illustration that prominently featured Sue’s famous mug peeking out from the facade of the Field Museum. The color palette reflects the luxury of an event featuring a live band, open bar, food tastings and a dope afterparty, but I also included organic pattern details to feature the Field Museum’s long history as a space of discovery of nature and culture around the world.

The final illustration was used across all Junior Council social channels, including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, to promote the event. A nine-tile grid on Instagram highlighted the full illustration to kick off the gala campaign and open ticket sales. Sue’s golden face could also be found on the formal invitation to the gala, as well as all event and ticket sale pages. All in all, the Snowball gala raised $275,000 for the Pediatric and Adolescent HIV & AIDS Programs at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
